Swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising to the lips is to be expected after and during the process. These side effects are only temporary and should wear off within a few hours or the next day.
Once the procedure is over, do not touch the area as it can be incredibly sensitive and cause infections or damage the filler. If you are still experiencing slight pain after the treatment, simply apply a cold compress to relieve this and reduce swelling.
After the procedure, it is important to keep away from any sources of heat as they can cause additional swelling, which can be unpleasant. Try not to exert yourself in any high-intensity exercise as this also impacts swelling. It is ideal to temporarily postpone exercise and activities that involve being in or near heat sources, such as saunas.

Lip fillers before & after

The amount of time the lip filler treatment can last depends on some aspects, for example, the amount of filler inserted. The more filler that is used, the longer the procedure can take. Generally, the treatment takes around 5-30 minutes. The procedure should not be long.
Having lip injections during pregnancy is not recommended as dermal fillers have not been tested on pregnant women, meaning we do not know the safety. The NHS advises against having any muscle-relaxing procedures such as botox during pregnancy, which is why we do not carry out similar procedures on pregnant women.
Soft lumps may develop after having lip filler. It is entirely safe to massage them to reduce swelling as long as they do not feel hard or rubbery. These lumps are usually undissolved filler, meaning they are safe to be dispersed. Massage them firmly to disperse them.
It is advised not to touch your lips directly after the procedure, so it is best to avoid smoking for 24 hours afterwards. After this, it is okay to smoke. Smoking 24 hours after lip fillers should not cause any damage or infections.
Redness and swelling of the area are common side effects of lip injections. They are temporary, so they should disappear in a few hours or the next day after your treatment. The amount of lip filler that you have may affect swelling. All side effects should completely wear off within two weeks.
Swelling can be reduced by just using a cold compress on the area. Any pain that you are still having can also be relieved by using this technique. Being in and around heat can increase swelling and high-intensity exercise, which is why these activities should be avoided after dermal fillers.
Drinking alcohol should be avoided 24 hours after having lip injections, as we recommend with smoking, because the lips will be sensitive. Once this time is up, consuming alcohol is safe. Be aware that alcohol can thin the blood and therefore can increase swelling and bruising of the lips. If you feel this is bearable, feel free to have a drink!
It is completely safe to have a bite after lip filler treatments if numbing cream has not been used. If numbing cream has been applied, you should wait until the cream has worn off. It may not be safe to eat with numb lips as it may cause you to choke. Easy foods are recommended, such as ice cream, which can help soothe the lips.
