From avoiding cheap supplements from big box retailers to eating the 'bitter' parts of foods, the wellness expert spoke out about the ways in which you too could improve your health

According to the health connoisseur, you shouldn't drink too much water or eat fish more than twice a week - due to the heavy amounts of 'metal' that has 'contaminated' the animals - and she even advised against doing a juice cleanse, since she said it could deplete your body of protein.

In addition, she opened up about her go-to product, which she insists can help if you ever catch a stomach bug and you're feeling under the weather.

From why you should avoid caffeine early in the morning to why cleanses aren't as healthy as they seem, here are the 10 things Claire said she would never do as a nutritionist.

Don't buy supplements from Costco

The nutritionist's first tip to ensure you live a long and healthy life was to avoid purchasing any supplements from wholesale corporations like Costco

The nutritionist's first tip to ensure you live a long and healthy life was to avoid purchasing any supplements from wholesale corporations like Costco.

Costco is well-known for selling items in bulk at a cheaper cost; and while the store can be a great place to find some deals, Claire explained that it may not be the best when it comes to vitamins.

'I know that there can be great deals, but you're honestly paying for what you get,' she warned in her video, which got more than 262,000 views.

Costco offers a series of different supplements under its brand Kirkland Signature, which has been certified by the United States Pharmacopeia for quality standards.

However, Claire noted that the supplements from the store are 'typically very low quality' and contain many 'fillers' such as 'soybean oil, food dyes, and preservatives.'

Ryan Davidson, a biotechnology student, previously echoed Claire's sentiments on Qurora.com, writing, 'Costco's vitamin section is low quality, which is disappointing given their commitment to quality in other areas.

Don't use canola oil

Claire's second piece of advice was to avoid canola oil - a type of vegetable oil derived from the canola plant - since it's 'highly processed' and 'inflammatory to the body'

Claire's second piece of advice was to avoid canola oil - a type of vegetable oil derived from the canola plant.

'It's a highly processed, rancid oil and is inflammatory to the body,' she explained. 'And new research is coming out that's saying it can impair our memory.'

According to Healthline, canola oil is an oilseed crop that was created in Canada through the crossbreeding of the rapeseed plant.

Most canola crops are genetically modified to improve oil quality and increase plant tolerance to herbicides.

And while it does contain Vitamin E and K and is low on saturated fat, the outlet added that Canola oil can negatively affect your health in multiple ways - especially due to its high omega-6 fat content.

Too much omega-6 fat can lead to a series of chronic conditions like Alzheimer's disease, obesity, and heart disease.

'A study in mice found that chronic exposure to a canola-rich diet resulted in significant harm to memory and substantial increases in body weight,' the outlet reported.

Don't use beauty products that contain fragrance

In her video, Claire told her followers that they should never use products that contain any sort of 'fragrance'

She explained that many beauty and skin care products add a ton of 'chemicals' to make them smell good, but instead of listing everything that went in to it, they use the 'blanket term fragrance' on the label (stock photo)

She explained that many beauty and skin care products add a ton of 'chemicals' to make them smell good, but instead of listing everything that went in to it, they use the 'blanket term fragrance' on the label.

'Instead of listing out all the chemicals that a company can use to make a product smell good, they're allowed to use this blanket term of "fragrance,"' she said.

'Unfortunately, a lot of the chemicals that they use can be hormone disrupting. It can do things like mimic hormones in the body, interfere with hormone production - just overall, mess with our hormones.'

Popular TikTok star and doctor, Kemi Fabusiwa, previously told Refinery 29, 'In general, the more wonderful it smells, the worse it is for your skin.'

Don't eat fish more than two times a week

While fish may seem like a healthy dinner option, Claire's fourth tip to leading a healthy lifestyle was to avoid eating it more than two times a week

While fish may seem like a healthy dinner option, Claire's fourth tip to leading a healthy lifestyle was to avoid eating it more than two times a week.

She claimed that fish can become 'contaminated' with mercury, a naturally occurring heavy metal that can build up in their bodies and is toxic to humans.

She claimed that fish can become 'contaminated' with mercury, a naturally occurring heavy metal that can build up in their bodies and is toxic to humans

'Unfortunately, in the world we live in today, many fish are contaminated with heavy metals,' she warned. 'Especially larger fish like tuna, mackerel, and sword fish.'

Mercury gets released into the environment through pollution, and can get absorbed by the fish when it enters the water.

'The amount of mercury in fish and other seafood depends on the species and the levels of pollution in its environment,' Healthline reported. 'Overall, larger and longer-lived fish tend to contain the most mercury.

'Eating fish and shellfish is a major source of mercury exposure in humans and animals. Exposure - even in small amounts - can cause serious health problems.'

Mercury intake has been related to a decrease in fine motor skills, dexterity, memory, and attention.

However, Healthline added that 'you shouldn't be afraid of eating fish' unless you are at high risk of mercury toxicity, such as pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Don't drink too much water

Many health officials believe it's important to drink water - but according to Claire, you should be careful not to consume too much because it can 'flush out' important minerals

Many health officials believe it's important to drink water - but according to Claire, you should be careful not to consume too much.

In her TikTok, she advised against drinking 'gallons and gallons of water per day,' explaining that it can 'flush out' important minerals.

'There actually is such a thing as drinking too much water,' she said. 'You can flush out too many minerals and dilute our stomach acid.

'We need our stomach to be very acidic to break down food properly. If it's not acidic enough, AKA too diluted, we can have an issue with digestion.'

MayoClinic reported that drinking water helps 'get rid of waste, keeps your temperature normal, lubricates and cushions joins, and protects sensitive tissues.'

However, it also stated that if you drink too much, 'your kidneys can't get rid of the excess' and the 'sodium content of your blood can become diluted.'

It recommended about 3.7 liters of fluids a day for men and 2.7 liters of fluids a day for women.

Don't throw away the white part of a bell pepper

While many people tend to throw away the inner, white part of a pepper, Claire's next tip was to actually eat it - despite its bitter taste

'That part is very bitter, but bitter foods help you strengthen and simulate digestion,' she told her followers (stock photo)

While many people tend to throw away the inner, white part of a pepper, Claire's next tip was to actually eat it - despite its bitter taste.

'That part is very bitter, but bitter foods help you strengthen and simulate digestion,' she told her followers.

According to WebMD, the white part of a pepper contains a chemical called piperine, which can reduce pain and inflammation and improve breathing.

Don't keep your WiFi router in your room

Claire said she would never keep her WiFi router in her bedroom due to the electromagnetic frequencies that it gives off. She added: 'They can cause mild to severe health issues'

She added: 'They can cause mild to severe health issues - things like headaches or not being able to sleep at night.'

The nutritionist said it's 'OK' if you have to keep it in your room, but recommended 'turning it off at night.'

EMFAcadamey.com reported that 'it is not safe to keep a router in your bedroom.'

'You will be exposed to an excessive amount of EMF and RF radiation from the router at close proximity. The dangers of this radiation are increased the closer it is to you,' it added.

However, the World Health Organization stated that current evidence does not confirm the existence of any health consequences from exposure to low level electromagnetic fields.

'To date, scientific evidence does not support a link between these symptoms and exposure to electromagnetic fields,' the organization added.

Don't travel without an HCL supplement

Claire said she never goes anywhere without a hydrochloric acid supplement - especially when she takes a trip. She dished: 'It helps to assist our stomach acid with killing off any pathogens'

Claire said she never goes anywhere without a hydrochloric acid supplement - especially when she takes a trip.

'It's especially important if I'm traveling anywhere out of the country - any place that I'm nervous about drinking the water or catching a bug,' she explained.

'HCL is a component of our stomach acid, so when we take one with a meal, it helps to assist our stomach acid with killing off any pathogens that may have gotten into our meal while we were eating.'

WebMD reported that the supplement is used for 'many conditions,' including stomach problems, but there is little 'scientific evidence' to support its effects.

In fact, the FDA banned its use in over the counter products due to 'a lack of information about whether it is safe and effective.'

Don't do a juice cleanse

Juice cleanses have become a popular trend on social media recently, but Claire said that as a nutritionist, she would never do one because it deprives your body of protein

Juice cleanses have become a popular trend on social media recently, but Claire said that as a nutritionist, she would never do one.

During a juice cleanse, also known as a detox diet, people don't eat any food for a certain period of time, but instead, they only drink juices made from fruit and vegetables - in an attempt to 'detox' their bodies and/or lose weight.

But according to Claire, it is ineffective since you're not consuming enough protein to properly detox.

'You need protein to detox. Protein is what helps carry the toxins through the body for elimination,' she explained.

'Without any protein, it's really just fasting. Save your money and drink some Bone Broth.'

Healthline reported that Bone Broth is 'a highly nutritious stock that can be made by simmering animal bones and connective tissue.'

'You need protein to detox. Protein is what helps carry the toxins through the body for elimination,' she explained. 'Without any protein, it's really just fasting'

According to Medical News Today, 'There is insufficient evidence to support the benefit of juice-based diets.'

The outlet added, 'Research has linked liquid diets with an increased risk of serious health complications and eating disorders.

'Consuming an insufficient number of calories can cause a person to experience symptoms relating to low blood sugar because the body does not have enough energy.

'Examples of these symptoms include fainting, weakness, dehydration, headaches, and hunger.

'A person on a juice cleanse may not consume enough proteins or fats. Both of these are crucial to physical health, healing, and brain function.'

Don't drink caffeine before breakfast

Last but not least, Claire's final tip was to not drink coffee on an empty stomach. She said: 'It causes unneeded stress on the body'

Last but not least, Claire's final tip was to not drink coffee on an empty stomach.

Healthline reported that there's 'little evidence' to suggest drinking coffee on an empty stomach is different than drinking it on a full stomach when it comes to stress (stock photo)

She said: 'That hit of caffeine first thing in the morning on an empty stomach causes unneeded stress on the body.

'It fires up our adrenal glands to send out a spike of cortisol - which is our stress hormone.'

Healthline reported, however, that there's 'little evidence' to suggest that drinking coffee on an empty stomach is any different than drinking it on a full stomach when it comes to cortisol levels.

'Some people claim that drinking it first thing in the morning, when cortisol levels are already high, can be dangerous,' the outlet wrote.

'However, cortisol production in response to coffee appears much lower among people who drink it regularly, and some studies show no rise in cortisol at all.

'Plus, there's little evidence to suggest that drinking coffee on a full stomach reduces this response.'
