Christian Bale lead the way Wednesday as his family departed New York City after promoting his latest movie.

He later pushed a stroller with Joseph in it while daughter Emmeline, 12, strode next to him as they arrived at Los Angeles International Airport.

Rosamund portrays Rosalie Quaid, a suicidal widow who undertakes the harrowing and perilous journey after the murder of her family on the plains by Comanche Indians.

Christian also discussed the movie during an interview on CBS This Morning on Monday and described his character as a 'bigoted and hate-filled man'.

'It tells the story of America in many ways,' he said. 'It's raw, it's visceral, but that is American history. It's violent, but that is American history as well.'

Hostiles opens on Friday in the US after premiering in September at the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado.

Christian while promoting the Western also showed signs of his recent 40-pound weight gain to portray former US Vice President Dick Cheney.

He will play the 46th Vice President in the upcoming biopic Backseat directed by Adam Mckay, 49, that wrapped filming last week.

McKay also directed Christian in 2015's The Big Short, which was the first film he directed without comedy partner Will Ferrell in the cast.
